Associate Professor in the Department of Global and Community Health Michelle S. Williams has been named president-elect for Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) Board of Trustees. Williams specializes in cancer prevention and control, development of culturally appropriate health behavior interventions, and Community-Based Participatory Research. She is a highly renowned public health educator, recognized by SOPHE, the American Public Health Association, the American Association for Cancer Education, and more.

“I have a deep commitment to advancing public health education. My priorities include advocating for policies that promote health equity, supporting innovative programs, and collaborating on strategic projects that align with SOPHE’s vision. By working alongside like-minded professionals, I am committed to ensuring SOPHE’s goals remain aligned with its mission and making a meaningful impact on public health education,” said Williams.
As president, Williams will oversee the SOPHE governing body and ensure all initiatives further the organization's priorities and objectives.
“My extensive experience in public health education and leadership roles uniquely positions me to serve as SOPHE's president. My leadership roles in other organizations, such as the American Association of Cancer Education and the American Public Health Association’s Women’s Caucus, have honed my skills in organizing impactful programs and advocating for health equity,” said Williams.
Williams will be recognized as president-elect April 15, 2025, following induction at the 2025 SOPHE Annual Conference. She will serve as president from 2026 – 2027.
