CPH Student Emergency Assistance Fund
Deadline: Awarded on a rolling basis. Submit anytime.
Limited, one-time support is available for current CPH students who are experiencing immediate financial obstacles, such as homelessness and food insecurity. Additional resources may be available through University Life, the Office of Financial Aid, and other campus resources. Requests for this funding are reviewed on a rolling basis. This award provides support for undergraduate students pursuing a degree within the College of Public Health. Recipients may be enrolled full-time or part-time, may be in-state or out-of-state students, will qualify on the basis of financial need.
ERPI Scholarship (all)
The ERPI scholarship provides funding for service-disabled veterans, veterans, or immediate family members to a veteran of the US Armed Forces.
Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Nursing Scholarships (all)
This award is to benefit a large number of undergraduate CPH students meeting mandatory criteria established by the foundation’s articles of incorporation. Students have been pre-screened for eligibility.
Dr. Zobair Younossi Scholarship (all)
The Dr. Zobair Younossi Health Research Scholarship is the first student-designated research scholarship at the College of Public Health (CPH). It was established in honor of Dr. Zobair Younossi, a 1984 Mason alumnus and recipient of the 2008 Mason Alumnus of the Year Award in recognition of his pioneering research in liver disease and contributions to the health care field. Dr. Younossi is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. This award is open to CPH students pursuing health-related research and a degree in biomedicine or a health-related field. Applicants may be undergraduate or graduate, may be full-time or part-time, and will qualify on the basis of academic merit, a thoughtful essay and demonstrated financial need. The minimum GPA for a recipient is 3.40.
William R. Hearst Foundation Scholarship (all)
The William R. Hearst Foundation Scholarship provides significant support for College of Public Health students who are interested in working with vulnerable and uninsured populations, and facing financial obstacles to completing their education. Applicants must have maintained at least a 3.0 GPA to date and have demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students who intend to permanently reside in the United States after completion of their studies.
Skolnik Family and Global Health Endowed Fellowship
The Skolnik Family Global Health Endowed Fellowship provides a travel stipend to a student doing research or practice on key issues in the health of poor and marginalized population in low- and middle-income countries. An award is offered yearly to a currently enrolled full-time undergraduate junior or senior (returning for at least one semester) students majoring in Community Health. The recipients may be either in-state or out-of-state residents. International students will need to select a location other than their home country.
One Health Scholarship (GCH)
Established in 2021 by Global and Community Health Professor Michael von Fricken, PhD, this award is designated for a graduate student pursuing a Masters in Public Health or a PhD in Public Health. Recipients must demonstrate an interest in One Health--a collaborative, trans-disciplinary approach recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment--and pursuit of research in global health and/or infectious diseases.
Potomac Health Foundation Scholarship
This new scholarship provides funding for students residing in Prince William County and passionate about serving vulnerable populations. Applicants may be part-time or full-time students pursuing any undergraduate degree through the College of Public Health
Health Informatics Endowed Scholarship (HAP)
The Health Informatics Endowed Scholarship is a $3,000 award established to support student learning in health services research methods, artificial intelligence, health data analytics, and other topics addressed in the study of health informatics. Applicants may be full-time or part-time students, undergraduate or graduate, but must be majoring in health informatics and must be in-state residents. A recipient will be selected on the basis of academic merit, compelling essay and demonstrated financial need.
Herman B. Brotman Endowed Scholarship
The Herman B. Brotman Endowed Scholarship benefits an undergraduate or graduate students interested in pursuing a career with older adults, caregivers, and family members. Recipients must be full-time students and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Mitchell J. Czoch Endowed Scholarship
The Mitchell J. Czoch award provide scholarships to undergraduate or graduate students interested in pursuing a career with older adults, caregivers, and family members. Preference will be given to students from Luzerne County, PA and Gloucester County, NJ.
Susanna Ezeanii and Mayfred Jolinda Nall Health Informatics Scholarship (Health Informatics)
This scholarship supports graduate students in the Masters of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) program. Recipients may be either full-time or part-time students and may be in-state or out-of-state residents. Recipients will qualify on the basis of financial need (need-aware) and academic merit (merit-based). Applicants must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.2.
Ann O'Neil Scholarship (Nursing)
Description: The Ann O’Neil Scholarship provides scholarships for Undergraduate Nursing students who will contribute to the diversity of the School of Nursing student body within the College of Public Health. Recipients must be transfer students from Northern Virginia Community College, may be enrolled part-time or full-time, may be in-state or out-of-state students, and will qualify based on academic merit and financial need.
Bette Burch Nursing Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The Bette Burch Nursing Endowed Scholarship benefits a full-time undergraduate nursing student demonstrating a commitment to the nursing profession. Recipients will qualify based on their demonstrated financial need, their level of commitment to the nursing profession, and how they plan to use their nursing education to benefit others.
Carolyn A. Taylor Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The purpose of the fund is to provide a scholarship for an undergraduate in nursing. The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student, a US citizen, and resident in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
General Hazel Johnson-Brown Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
Open to undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in nursing. Applicants will be considered based on documented financial need and demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles in pursuit of their education, as described in an 800-word essay.
Graham Nursing Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The Graham Nursing Endowed fund provides a need-based scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate nursing student.
Helene Fuld Endowed Nursing Scholarship (Nursing)
Scholarship awards are available for undergraduate Accelerated Bachelors in Nursing (ABSN) students in the College of Health and Human Services. Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate academic excellence, leadership skills, and financial need.
To apply: ABSN students should complete the ABSN Scholarship Application by May 31 to be eligible for this award.
Camille Barry PhD Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The purpose of the fund is to provide a scholarship for a full-time student pursuing a doctoral degree in nursing. Recipients must demonstrate being a nurse leader and must be in good academic standing. Recipient must clearly articulate their career and research goals after graduation. The recipient must be a US citizen, but may be either an in-or out-of-state resident.
Deborah J. Milanowski Nursing Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The Deborah J. Milanowski Endowed Scholarship benefits a full-time undergraduate nursing student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater. Preference is given to a student with genetic condition cystic fibrosis; however a student with other chronic medical condition or physical disability will be considered. A student meeting the above criteria is entitled to the scholarship without regard to his/her financial need.
DiNatale Memorial Scholarship (Nursing)
The DiNatale Memorial Scholarship was established to provide scholarships to either a MSN or DNP candidate with a concentration in Nursing Administration, in their last year of the program. Applicants for this $1,000 scholarship may be either full-time or part-time and can be in-state or out-of-state. Preference will be given to MSN students. Recipients will qualify on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Eric & Melissa Merten Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The Eric and Melissa Merten Endowed fund provide a scholarship for an undergraduate nursing student. Recipients must be full-time students and may either be in-state or out-of-state residents. Scholarships will be awarded based on merit and financial need.
Florence M. Schaffner Endowed International Experience Award (Nursing)
The Florence M. Schaffner Endowed International Experience Award provides a travel award to an undergraduate or graduate nursing student who is traveling to a developing country for educational purposes.

The Marie Shea Ganley and Laura Buckreis Monroe Memorial Fund provides scholarship support and financial recognition to a Registered Nurse studying in the RN to BSN Degree program.

The Kay McNamara Nursing fund provides a scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate nursing student with demonstrated academic merit and financial need. Recipients must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Lisa D. Glascock Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The Lisa D. Glascock Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established to support an undergraduate, in-state student accepted into the nursing program. Applicants may be either full-time or part-time students. The recipient will qualify on the basis of both academic merit and financial need.
Marie Gillman Memorial Endowed Scholarship (Nursing)
The Marie Gillman Memorial Endowed Scholarship was established by nursing students in the Class of 1986 in memory of the late Marie Gillman, a former department secretary in School of Nursing. Applicants must be junior, undergraduate students in the School of Nursing, within the College of Public Health, active in the Student Nurses Association, with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Academic merit and essay submission will be considered in the selection of a recipient.

The Pan American Roundtable of DC fund provides scholarships to nursing students who are fluent in Spanish. Recipients must have demonstrated financial need and a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

The Sentara Scholars scholarship was established to maximize Sentara’s impact at partner institutions while helping to create a diverse and highly skilled workforce pipeline in the healthcare and healthcare-related fields. Students must be in-state residents. Students must be enrolled in a healthcare or healthcare-related undergraduate or professional degree or certificate program during the award distribution period. Recipients must be in Good Academic Standing as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and in compliance with the institution’s Student Code of Conduct. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. In addition to directing applicants through the Office of Financial Aid, recommendations for student recipients can be made by deans, chancellors, department chairs, and student success leadership.

The Sullivan and Friesen Family Nursing Research Endowed Scholarship was established in 2020 by Mary Ann Friesen, RN, PhD ’08 and Peter Friesen in memory of their parents and in honor of their families. This scholarship was created in 2019 to honor the late Ashley C. Payton, a former social work student at Mason who passed away in March 2018, just shy of her graduation. The fund supports one MSW student annually. Applicants should submit an essay detailing their interest in working with homeless populations and/or in mental health care, and should demonstrate involvement in encouraging minority students to enter the field of social work. Recipients will qualify on the basis of financial need, essay and academic merit, with a minimum GPA of 3.2 required.

A recipient will be selected on the basis of academic merit, compelling essay and demonstrated financial need.

Open to students pursuing a master’s degree in social work. Recipients must be a resident of Northern Virginia, with a preference given to students from Fairfax County or Loudon County. Preference will also be given to students who are currently working with the Fairfax County Department of Family Services or pursuing a career in family services. Recipients will qualify on a basis of financial need, academic merit, and personal essay; a minimum GPA of 3.2 is required.
Ashley C. Payton Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created in 2019 to honor the late Ashley C. Payton, a former social work student at Mason who passed away in March 2018, just shy of her graduation. The fund supports one MSW student annually. Applicants should submit an essay detailing their interest in working with homeless populations and/or in mental health care, and should demonstrate involvement in encouraging minority students to enter the field of social work. Recipients will qualify on the basis of financial need, essay and academic merit, with a minimum GPA of 3.2 required.

A student meeting the above criteria is entitled to the scholarship without regard to his/her financial need.

The Marie Shea Ganley and Laura Buckreis Monroe Memorial fund provides scholarship support and financial recognition to a Registered Nurse studying in the RN to BSN degree program. Full-time students, in their final semester of study, may qualify for this $500 award on the basis of academic merit and must have a cumulative 3.2 GPA while enrolled at George Mason University. The recipient must be a US citizen, but can reside in any state.

The Sentara Scholars scholarship was established to maximize Sentara’s impact at partner institutions while helping to create a diverse and highly skilled workforce pipeline in the healthcare and healthcare-related fields. Students must be in-state residents. Students must be enrolled in a healthcare or healthcare-related undergraduate or professional degree or certificate program during the award distribution period. Recipients must be in Good Academic Standing as determined by the Office of Financial Aid and in compliance with the institution’s Student Code of Conduct. Applicants must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. In addition to directing applicants through the Office of Financial Aid, recommendations for student recipients can be made by deans, chancellors, department chairs, and student success leadership.
Undergraduate Nursing Population Health Fellowship Stipends
The Population Health Fellowship (PHF) Program is a new opportunity for Mason nursing students to gain additional exposure in public and population health concepts within community and longitudinal primary care clinical experiences in rural and/or underserved settings. Made possible through a four-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health Resources and Services Administration, this program provides a $5,000 stipend per student, divided across multiple semesters during participation in the program. Participants must consent to uphold the standards and responsibilities outlined in the application form to participate in the PHF program.

The Violet B. Robinson Endowed fund provides a scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate student in the nursing program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

This scholarship is open to current nurse practitioner students with a 3.2 GPA or higher. Bilingual students encouraged to apply.
DiNatale Memorial Scholarship
The DiNatale Memorial Scholarship was established to provide scholarships to either a MSN or DNP candidate with a concentration in Nursing Administration, in their last year of the program. The Office of Fellowships
The Office of Fellowships works to recruit, mentor and support graduate students seeking external funding though nationally competitive awards. That support includes:
- Information sessions, announcements, and search tools to identify funding opportunities.
- Fellowship advising and grant writing support.
- Workshops on how to craft strong applications.
- One-on-one coaching and feedback during the application process.
- Support for faculty mentors and advisors.
- Class visits, workshops, webinars, and lists of opportunities tailored by discipline.
