Global and Community Health

The Department of Global and Community Health (GCH) prepares students to become critical thinkers and successful public health practitioners through strong educational programs that emphasize public safety, preventing illness, and promoting wellness—both locally and globally. Located just 15 miles from the nation’s capital, our students work with government, private, nongovernment, and community organizations, to solve community and global health challenges.

Health Administration and Policy

The Department of Health Administration and Policy (HAP) provides students with education, service, and research opportunities to improve the quality and delivery of health care and health services and policies. Our innovative curriculum—recognized both nationally and internationally—prepares students to pursue careers as executives and managers in acute and ambulatory care and senior housing/assisted living organizations, as well as highly skilled specialists in health informatics, health systems, health care quality, and public health policy and research. 


The School of Nursing prepares students for interdisciplinary roles as clinicians, educators, researchers, and administrators. Our students learn to address the challenges of a rapidly changing and diverse health care environment with hands-on experience in our simulation and skills labs and our Mason and Partners clinics. Their experience working with the culturally diverse patient population in the northern Virginia area provides them with the necessary skills to deliver health care where it’s needed the most.

Nutrition and Food Studies

The Department of Nutrition and Food Studies prepares students to address public health issues involving nutrition and food access and is the only program of its kind in northern Virginia. Our undergraduate and graduate programs train students to engage in nutrition and food-related planning, practice, and research. Our students combine the science of nutrition with the culture of food to impact society and influence behavior changes that improve public health and people’s access to quality food sources.

Social Work

The Department of Social Work prepares students to be innovative social work leaders, scholars, and practitioners in a competency-, skills-, and strengths-based learning environment. Our students gain hands-on experience with diverse populations and communities through our more than 200 active national, government, and community field sites in an ideal region to directly impact social work on a local and national level.
