Associate Professor in George Mason University’s College of Public Health Katherine Scafide has been appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Forensic Nursing. Scafide was unanimously endorsed by the members of the editorial board due to her exceptional research and scholarship in the field of forensic nursing. 

"As a member of the Journal of Forensic Nursing editorial board, I am eager to collaborate with fellow board members to identify emerging trends in forensic nursing, attract high-impact submissions, and ensure that the journal remains at the forefront of advancements in the field,” said Scafide. 

Scafide is an accomplished academician and scientist with a profound dedication to advancing the field of forensic nursing. In her nearly 20 years of experience in forensic nursing practice and research, she has developed a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges within the field of forensic nursing.  

Scafide and a team of Mason colleagues were recently awarded the largest gift toward research in the College of Public Health’s history to advance groundbreaking research on bruise and injury detection for individuals who experience interpersonal violence. She is nationally recognized for her forensic work on bruise and injury detection and has been featured on NBC Nightly News and other media outlets. Among many awards, Scafide most recently received the Forensic Nurse Scientist Award at the American Academy of Forensic Science meeting in February 2024.  

The Journal of Forensic Nursing is the official journal of the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). The journal is dedicated to the advancement of forensic nursing research and scholarship by publishing articles that create, translate and disseminate knowledge relevant to forensic nurses and interprofessional colleagues globally.
