The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) is partnering with School of Nursing faculty and students on a new “Primary and Behavioral Health Integration” grant.
Mason nursing students will be involved in the “Be Well” campaign portion of the grant. The goal of the campaign is to help CSB clients manage chronic illnesses and find a primary care provider, in addition to promoting healthy lifestyle choices through education and outreach. Additionally, nurse practitioner students will provide a smoking cessation class as part of their coursework. They will also provide health screenings for obesity, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), diabetes, vision problems, and carbon monoxide levels to CSB clients.
“Integrating primary and behavioral health care is a national trend, and we welcome this opportunity to have our nursing students involved in this initiative,” said Nancy Kelly, assistant professor of nursing, who is involved with the grant.
