Andrew Guccione, chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Science, has been appointed to the National Research Advisory Council.
The National Research Advisory Council advises the Under Secretary for Health and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs on research and development sponsored and/or conducted by the Veterans Health Administration. The council members represent a variety of expertise areas, including rehabilitation research and development, geriatric care, clinical research, and occupational and environmental health research, among other areas.
“The National Research Advisory Council has the unique opportunity to make recommendations that guide and shape the scope of research conducted by the Veterans Health Administration, the largest integrated health care system in America,” said Thomas Prohaska, dean of the College of Health and Human Services. “Dr. Guccione’s expertise in geriatrics, health status measurement, and functional outcomes after rehabilitation will allow him to play an influential and important role in improving care provided to veterans through research translation.”
Guccione will serve a two-year term that ends in 2018. Council members may be appointed to subsequent terms when their term expires.
